Orphaned Children Scholarship Program

The Lions Club of Pokhara Annapurna has worked to fund individual scholarships for orphans and semi-orphans. These children have mostly been affected by Nepal’s political insurgency and/or poor family backgrounds. Some of their parents were killed during the uprising of the Maoist. Our club is currently funding the education of seventeen children, who are now studying in different schools in Pokhara Valley.

Essay Competition

With the support of the Tokyo Suginami Rotary Club, we were able to host the Essay Competition in the Kaski district. Seventy students from thirty-five schools participated in the competition. It was one of the best essay competitions every organised in the valley. Rotarian Takahashi and his team were present at the prize distribution day on the 6th of April, 2001.

Sidhi Barahi Primary School

The literacy rates have increased in multiple sub-metropolitan cities in our country, but many villages and rural areas still struggle with poor educational access, with literacy rates of less than 10% in some areas. Through the support of Prof. Tomio Ozawa, Mrs Michiko Ohdate, Mrs Seiko Okamoto and Mrs Kazuko Tominaga, we were able to rebuild the Sidhi Barahi Primary School. As a result of their generous contributions and the participation of the local people, the school has been able to continue educating the next generation. The project cost was 475,000 rupees, which enabled the completion of five classrooms and one office.
